Save Southwark Fire Station!
Southwark Labour were out in force this weekend to campaign against the closure of Southwark Fire Station. About 60 activists and councillors joined fire fighters in Chaucer ward to gather support against Boris Johnson’s plans which would mean the loss of the station in Southwark Bridge Road.
I attended all 4 sessions over the course of the weekend and ran the board in three of them. In my team we knocked on 500 doors and got 75 signatures for our petition. On the doorstep there was definite concern for public safety should the fire station close. We’ll keep doing everything we can to convince the Mayor to put the safety of Londoners first.
Well done to Robert Smeath and Karl Eastham for a fantastic job organising everything.
