Althea Smith, former Councillor and Mayor of Southwark, has been elected as the new Chair of Kiwanis UK for 2015/2016.

Althea was voted as the charitable organization’s UK branch Chair by their members and will begin her year-long tenure on Thursday 1st October.

In August this year, Althea was the proud recipient of a GMC Life Achievement Award, recognizing her civic and charitable services to London and the Borough of Southwark.

As well as her incredible work with Kiwanis in the UK, she has also participated in projects in Haiti, where she assisted with children’s schooling and healthcare services.

Kiwanis International is a service organization dedicated to improving the prospects of children across the globe. It has 600,000 members worldwide and raises approximately $100million per year for its projects.
