Trini Evans – 2016 GMC Community Champion Award 

Keith Mullins - GMC Community Champion Award Trini Evans has worked for the Green Light Youth Club in East London for many years, overseeing a number of operations for the club. Her reward reflects her commitment to helping aspiring young people from deprived backgrounds into employment and running many other successful projects for the club. Congratulations Trini!

P.C. Darren Farr – 2016 GMC Community Champion Award 

Keith Mullins - GMC Community Champion Award P.C. Darren Farr serves in the Metropolitan Police as a member of the Forest Gate South ward Safer Neighbourhood Team, having previously served in the London Borough of Westminster. His reward reflects his total 15 years of service to the Metropolitan Police and his tireless efforts to protect his ward from all types of crime. Congratulations Darren!

Keith Mullins – 2016 GMC Community Champion Award 

Keith Mullins - GMC Community Champion Award Keith Mullins is Secretary of Spartak 78 Youth Sports Club in Essex. In his tenure as Secretary, he has been responsible for overseeing the club’s growth from 150 boy and girl footballers to 300. He has also managed the club’s U14 team. His reward reflects his 10 years of service to the club’s growth and for building a wonderful sense of community between the club and local residents. Congratulations Keith!

Sonia Sutton – 2016 GMC Life Achievement Award 

Sonia Sutton - GMC Life Achievement Award Sonia Sutton is the Administrator for the Southwark Chamber of Commerce, where she plays a pivotal role in ensuring that their operations run smoothly. Previously, Sonia served her borough as the Mayor of Southwark’s Personal Assistant. Her reward reflects her 20 years of long hours and hard work towards Southwark and its residents. Tony Stevens – 2016 GMC Life Achievement Award 

Tony Stevens - GMC Life Achievement Award Tony is a founder of the Daneford Trust, established in 1982 to provide less privileged young people from South East London with the opportunity to travel across the globe to take part in volunteering initiatives. In 25 years with the trust, Tony instigated over 100 school exchange projects in over 50 countries. His reward reflects his tireless dedication to improve the prospects of young people by providing them with global opportunities. Congratulations Tony!

Mounir Haddad – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

Originally from Lebanon, Mounir is active in the Model UN and has previously represented Lebanon at the Havard World Model United Nations in Australia. Mounir has secured a training contract at Hogan-Lovells starting in Summer 2016. Mounir is one of the leaders of the Camden Cares project that is helping settle incoming refugee families from Syria and other countries in North London. He is a role model for young people across London. Congratulations Mounir!

Nazgol Kafai-Golahmady – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

nazgol kafai-golahmady gmc award Nazgol is an undergraduate law and religion student at SOAS, University of London. She is the Vice president of the Ahlul-Bayt Islamic Society at SOAS and has been an Assistant Researcher at Bahrain Watch, a research based NGO. Nazgol aspires to work in the United Nations to help bridge the gap between different groups of Muslims. Nazgol is one of the leaders of the Camden Cares project that is helping settle incoming refugee families from Syria and other countries in North London. She is a role model for young people across London. Congratulations Nazgol!

Raphael Gregorian – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

Raphael is the President of the SOAS Armenian Society and is also a scout leader.  He is looking forward to working in the Civil Service and is particularly interested in community cohesion and multiculturalism. Raphael is one of the leaders of the Camden Cares project that is helping settle incoming refugee families from Syria and other countries in North London. Ramie Farag – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

Ramie is also an associate editor of the SOAS Law Journal and has been a charity week organiser.  Ramie aims to be a commercial lawyer and then use his skills to work in politics, human rights and charitable work. Ramie is one of the leaders of the Camden Cares project that is helping settle incoming refugee families from Syria and other countries in North London. He is a role model for young people across London. Congratulations Ramie!

Emmanuel Etuh – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

Emmauel Etuh gmc award Emmanuel is an undergraduate law student at SOAS, University of London. Emmanuel is currently the Nigerian/Ghanian media officer. He sees law as an instrument for social change and is looking forward to working for the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Emmanuel is one of the leaders of the Camden Cares project that is helping settle incoming refugee families from Syria and other countries in North London. He is a role model for young people across London. Congratulations Emmanuel!

Jack Ironside – 2016 GMC Community Champion Award

jack ironside award Jack is the Community Development Officer at Arsenal in the Community. Jack joined Arsenal after graduating from university via the Arsenal Gap Year Programme. Since then, he has taught football in local schools and represented Arsenal FC in schools in Germany and Spain. He now heads up community programmes in Islington and across London for young people. Congratulations Jack!

Sean Turnbull – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

 sean turbull gmc award Sean is a Programmes Officer at 3FF and helps deliver the UN Award-winning programme, ParliaMentors. Sean previously worked for the NUS supporting policy and campaigns regarding student welfare. He also supported the NUS Campus Cohesion, Faith and Belief Project. Sean was presented the Young Leader award for providing opportunities to young people across London. Congratulations Sean!

Tim Mortimer – 2016 GMC Young Leader Award

tim mortimer gmc award Tim is a Programmes Officer at 3FF and helps deliver the UN Award-winning programme, ParliaMentors. Tim previously worked for Childreach International where he set up an international volunteering programme for students in Morocco, Nepal and Tanzania. He also spent six months teaching English to Buddhist monks in India. Tim was presented the Young Leader award for providing opportunities to young people across London. Congratulations Tim!

Katy Foxcroft – 2016 GMC Community Champion Award

Katy is young Irish dance champion for Carragher Academy in Bermondsey. She has been dancing for 10 years and has won around 35 championship titles to date. She has also danced at many charity events and at the age of 17, she started giving up her time to teach at Carragher Academy.  Her award reflects her 10 years of hard work, contributions to charitable causes and being an inspiration to the young dancers at her academy. Congratulations Katy!

P.C. Tracy Gunn – 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

Tracy Gunn GMC Award Tracy has served as a law enforcement officer in the Borough of Newham for over 15 years. She works in the capacity of Newham Borough Liaison Officer, which has enabled her to work with organisations to improve good community relations and to improve public confidence in the Metropolitan Police. Congratulations Tracy!

Justin Moore MBE JP – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

Justin Moore GMC Award Justin has served the people of East London as a Magistrate for over 25 years before retiring from the bench in 2015. He is also the founder of the Greenlight Youth Club, which seeks to assist young people and families through access to its services. His reward reflects his efforts in keeping his community safe for over a quarter of a century. Congratulations Justin!

Deborah Reid-Brown – 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

Deborah Reid-Brown GMC Award Deborah is the co-founder and Principal of Windsor Basic School in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. Her award reflects her 15 years of hard work in ensuring that children from St. Ann’s Bay have access to the basic right of education. Congratulation Deborah!

Councillor Adedamola Aminu – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

aminu award Adedamola is a former Mayor of Lambeth. His award reflects his contribution to the people of Lambeth and his overall contribution to communities and people across London. Cllr Aminu encourages others, especially those from minority backgrounds to get involved in the political system and in their communities and make a positive impact. He is an inspiration to all Londoners. Congratulations Adedamola!

Ken Hayes – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

ken_hayes_award Ken is a long serving community champion of Southwark. He is a Governor for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, St Jude’s Primary School and the London Nautical School. Over the years Ken has raised thousands of pounds for charity and is Honorary Secretary of the Southwark Civic Association. He was also the Chair of the Southwark Chamber of Commerce, presiding over its 75th anniversary. Congratulations Ken!

Musharraf Chaudhary – 2015 GMC Global Community Champion Award

He has dedicated himself to building community cohesion among Southwark’s diverse neighbourhoods. For the last four years, Musharraf has organised the Southwark Eid Festival which has attracted around 10,000 residents from all walks of life. Last year, Musharraf collected two Southwark Civic Awards for his community work. Congratulations Musharraf!

Veronica Alden – 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

veronica_alden_award Veronica has been Southwark Young Pilgrims fundraiser and project coordinator for the past 18 years! Previously, she was Centre Manager for Southwark Heritage Association. The Southwark Young Pilgrims project gives year 10 and 11 pupils from schools within Southwark an insight into the world of work and introduces young people to the idea of a career in travel and tourism through a structured programme of accredited training and work experience as Ambassadors of the Borough. Dulcie Hutchinson – 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

Dulcie’s work across Southwark and London spans for more than a decade. Her award reflects her effort and contribution to our youth in Southwark. Congratulations Dulcie!

Althea Smith – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

althea smith award Althea is the current President of Kiwanis Central London. Her charitable and civic contribution to London and Southwark are significant; she was a Southwark Councillor for over a decade and was Mayor of Southwark in 2012. Althea has also supported initiatives and raised thousands of pounds for charitable and humanitarian causes in Jamaica and Haiti. Congratulations Althea!

Dorcas Fayemi – 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

dorcas fayemi Dorcas is the founder of IBA Charity. IBA provides educational and leisure opportunities for young people in Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth including disabled people, their carers and families, and support for older people. We recognize and celebrate Dorcas’ 17 years of work helping raise the quality of life for young people and senior citizens in Southwark. Congratulations Dorcas!

Hulusi Yuruten – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

hulusi yuruten Hulisi is the founder and chairman of the Southwark Cyprus Turkish Association. He is a keen cyclist and can often be seen riding around the area on his bicycle at age 76. Congratulations Hulusi!

Victoria Harley- 2015 GMC Community Champion Award

victoria harley Victoria is CEO of Abike Ade Foundation, a charity that empowers communities and fights poverty. She is also a Psychiatric graduate Nurse from the University of Greenwich and a graduate of Business & Finance from the South Bank University in London. She is also a media presenter. Congratulations Victoria!

Winsome Okeke – 2015 GMC Life Achievement Award

Winsome Okeke Winsome is President-Elect of the Kiwanis Central Club, Project Lead for The Dolly Parton Imagination Library and Project Lead for The ELIMINATE Project. Winsome was honoured because of her long service as a Manager at King’s College Hospital Midwifery Department, and for her dedicated community work. Congratulations Winsome!

Eddie Wilcox – 2015 GMC Unsung Hero Award

Eddie Wilcox Eddie is actively involved in several organisations in Southwark, including the Southwark Civic Association. Eddie was honoured because of his long and distinguished support of Ronald McDonald House Guy’s and St Thomas’. In the past, Eddie has raised £6000 for the House by organising a Sky-Dive. Eddie is also Life President of Athenlay Football Club and has invited the Mayor of Southwark to read at an annual Carol Service in December. Congratulations Eddie!

Juliet Atako – 2015 GMC Unsung Hero Award

Juliet Atako Juliet is leading the way on fundraising in Southwark to fight Ebola in West Africa. Juliet was honoured because of her long and distinguished career as a volunteer and community champion. Juliet has received certificates from the Southwark Borough Police Operational Command Unit in recognition of her long service; as well as the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellent Service during the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012. Congratulations Juliet!

Sue Heath-Downey – 2014 GMC Unsung Hero Award

Sue Heath-Downey Sue Heath-Downey is the Musical Director of Rotherhithe and Bermondsey Choir Society. Rotherhithe and Bermondsey Choral Society is a thriving community choir that Sue established in 1998. Sue is passionate about making music accessible to everyone in the community and building bridges through music. She is herself, an accomplished organist, having performed solo recitals all over the world. Congratulations Sue!

Prince Adedokun Lasaki – 2014 GMC Life Achievement Award

Ade Lasaki Prince Adedokun (Ade) Lasaki is the Chair of the Yoruba Association in London. Ade has been a community leader in Southwark for more than 30 years and is a former Southwark Councillor. He has been involved with Longfield Estate TRA, Safer Neighborhood teams and the South Bermondsey Partnership Board. And the list goes on. Congratulations Ade!

Prince Jah – 2014 GMC Unsung Hero Award

Prince Jah Prince Jah has been a longstanding community champion in Southwark and was recognised for his community work. He brings the community together through community art. Prince’s work can be seen in Burgess Park and across Southwark. Congratulations Prince Jah!

Amadu Kanumansa – 2014 GMC Community Achievement Award

Amadu Kanumansa_GMC Award Amadu has studied at universities in Africa, Europe and the UK. He has a Masters degree in Economic and Social Planning at Kiev State Economic University in Ukraine. Amadu is fluent in Russian. A successful businessman, he runs and manages a pilgrimage business in Southwark and has completed the Hajj five times. Congratulations Amadu!

Hajies and Hajas – 2014 Community Achievement Awards

Hajj 2014_GMC Award 10 people were recognised for completing the Hajj pilgrimage in 2014. They included: Memuna Kabia, Jariatu Sesay, Aissata Jalloh, Kadiatu Sankoh, Adurahimi Diallo, Alusine Barrie, Fatu Fofannah, Emma N’ma Kamara and Ramatu Bangura. Congratulations to them all!

Eric Quilliam – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

She has been involved with the North Peckham & Commerical Way North TRA for over 20 years and is a role model for young people in London. Sandy continues to be a constant support to her neighbours. Nicholas Okwulu – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Nicholas Okuwule_GMC Award Nicholas is a community enabler who makes it is his mission to help local residents living within the most deprived areas of London develop solutions to solve them and empower them. Nicholas is the Founder of PemPeople (People Empowering People) which has a popup shop in Peckham. He also organises the Livesey Big Lunch and Bike Project. Congratulations Nicholas!

Abubakar Kamara – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Abubakar Kamara_GMC Award Abubakar is a local businessman and community entrepreneur. He runs an internet cafe in the heart of Peckham and is also the President of the Sierra Leone Friendship Association. As such, he unites and brings the community together annually for a summer fun day. Congratulations Abubakar!

Beverley Allison – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Project B.I.S.C.E.Y – 2013 GMC Young Leaders Award

Chris Price – 2013 GMC Youth Service Provider Award

Chirs Price_GMC Award Chris is the Executive Director at Pecan Foodbank in South London. He has been at Pecan since October 2011. Prior to this, Chris was a Director of Development at Welcare, a South London charities working with children and families. Chris is also a Methodist local preacher and Cub Scout Leader. Denis Pougin_GMC Award Denis has been a community champion in Livesey ward for several years and is Chair of Acorn Estate TRA. He inspires young people to focus on acquiring higher skillsets and aim higher to reach to the top. He has been working as a manager in a multiplex theatre for seven years. Congratulations Denis!

Nimato Okunnu – 2013 GMC Entrepreneur Award

Nimato Okunnu_GMC Award Nimato is a local entrepreneur who runs her own catering business. She is active and provides food to those in need as well. Nimato is determined to open her own restaurant on Tooley Street and in the City of London. Congratulations Nimato!

Mbalu Adama Bangura – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Mbalu Adama Bangura_GMC Award Mrs Mbalu Adama Bangura was recognised for her service to the community by Kings and East Dulwich Hospital for her support to the elderly and the disabled. Mbalu has looked after her disabled husband for over 10 years. Congratulations Mbalu!

Kenyasue Smart – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Veronica Ayodele Sokoya – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Veronica Ayodele Sokoya_GMC Award Veronica is a longtime community champion in London. She has dedicated her life to caring for others so they can live healthy lives. In particular, she has helped the disabled, elderly and terminally ill for the last 30 years. Congratulations Veronica!

Priscilla Madubuko – 2013 GMC Life Achievement Award

Priscilla Madubuko_GMC Award Priscilla is a longtime community champion in London and particularly in Southwark. Priscilla helps with childcare for over 50 families and runs a nursery school and a full-day childcare service all year round.  Priscilla is recognised for her dedication to youth in London. Steve Hedger – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Steve Hedger_GMC Award Steve is the Chair of East Dulwich Estate TRA and helps manage the Albrighton Centre in Camberwell. He is a longtime champion of community cohesion. Steve helps offer a variety of community work and activities for local residents. Steve also sits on the Southwark Group of Tenants Organisation as a Director. Congratulations Steve!

Alfie Mason – 2013 GMC Community Champion Award

Alfie Mason_GMC Award Alfie is a youth leader and founder of Transform Ours, a dynamic development organisation whose main focus is to empower young people through media, arts and social interaction via workshops and inspirational events. Congratulations Alfie!

Colin Hunte – 2013 GMC Lifetime Achievement Award

colin hunte award Colin has lived, studied and worked in Southwark for 45 years. He was the Chair of both the East Dulwich and Acorn TRAs. As a diversity champion, he has started several community projects across Southwark, including youth cricket sport clubs. He is also a School Governor and a Coordinator at Albrighton Community Centre . Congratulations Colin!

Hajies and Hajas – 2013 GMC Community Achievement Awards

Hajj 2013_GMC Award 20 people were recognised for completing the Hajj pilgrimage in 2014. Mei Sim Lai OBE DL – 2012 GMC Community Champion Award

mei sim lai award Mei Sim is the Founder and Principal of LaiPeters & Co and has held several board appointments in the public, private and not for profit and charity sectors. She was awarded an OBE in 2004 for services to equal opportunities and since 2007 she has been the Representative Deputy Lieutenant for London Borough of Brent. She created the Mulan Foundation Network to recognise and honour the achievements of others in the UK. Congratulations Mei Sim!

Justin Moore MBE JP – 2012 GMC Community Champion Award
