Ibrahim Conteh
Ibrahim Ishaq Conteh Levi Newman Natalie Lek
Ibrahim is a fully qualified Imam, who has been working in the capacity for 15 years. He was Iman and Community Welfare Coordinator for North Brixton Cultural Centre for 11 years until 2015, having previously been a Head Teacher at Ul Uswat Welfare Organisation. He holds a PGCE in Education for Goldsmiths University and is currently working towards an MA in Social Work from the University of Birmingham.  Levi is a volunteer within the Child Rights Team of Southwark Council, where he represents care leavers’ to the executives of the council. He also works at Fresh Flower Shop and in 2015, completed an Engineering course at Lambeth College. Natalie is a Law student at Salford University with over 15 years experience in virtual assistance and business support. In 2015, she raised enough money to prepare 400 Christmas dinners for isolated and vulnerable people in Manchester and Lancashire, which earned her a Point of Light Award from the Prime Minister. She has also started and grown a back office support business for the last four years, which has supported over two hundred businesses to date.

Ajaratu has lived in Southwark for over 20 years. She set-up the Muslim Women Food Bank within the South London Islamic Centre in 2012, which distributes grocery bags for needy and vulnerable people in the community evening Tuesday evening. Ajaratu has also been nominated for a European Diversity Award, being shortlisted in the Hero of the Year category. Olabisi is a Television Presenter and founder of World of Women TV, which empowers women to acquire new skills and knowledge to become financially independent. In 2012, Diabetes UK recognised her as the ‘Best Volunteer in Bexley’ for her contributions to the community as a Risk Assessor for the charity.  Ganiyat is an Events Manager and founder of the Fashion Exposed and the first Mr & Miss Nigeria UK beauty pageant.  She has been award the Gathering of Africa’s Best award for outstanding contribution to the promotion of the positive of image of Africa and Africans around the world through events management.

Melinda is currently completing her MA degree. She was a senior information and communications teacher at Harris Academy Bermondsey and a former director, producer and archivist for MTV networks and VH1. Melinda recently worked on the film Divided by race, united in war and peace. She has a passion for media, education and working with young people. Jennifer is the Founder of Safe’N’Sound (S’N’S) Youth Project that addresses the needs of young people. It is a well established and respected organisation based in Peckham. Jennifer is passionate about solving the challenge and social issues that affect young people and work with them to ensure they reach their full potential. Denis has been a community champion in Livesey ward for several years and is Chair of Acorn Estate TRA. He inspires young people to focus on acquiring higher skillsets and aim higher to reach to the top. He has been working as a manager in a multiplex theatre for seven years.

Althea was first elected as a Councillor for Nunhead in 2006. She was the Mayor of Southwark and the borough’s first citizen between 2012-13. She also was the Chair of the Planning Committee. Previously, having worked at Kings College Hospital as a nurse, Althea was also the Chair of the Tenants Council in Southwark. As a community champion in Southwark, Terry is actively involved in building bridges between the various communities of this great borough. A versatile journalist and an advocate, Fade’s professional life has largely revolved around governance and development issues; and this has provided a veritable platform to examine critical issues of poverty alleviation, unemployment, communal development and public policy in finer details. Ediri has worked within the welfare benefits system for several years. She is currently an advisor and assesor for Brent Council and helps assess claims for housing/council tax benefit. She also deals with the current benefit reform changes. She is committed to helping residents through the current financial climate.

Tess is a young leader in Southwark who wants equality at the top. He was elected Deputy Head Boy at his school and works with community organisations such as Asquith Nursery and Lambeth Academy as a sports leader. Lamine has been a community champion for Southwark for several years. He has a BA from London Metropolitan University. He currently works as a researcher of STAR (Student Action for Refugees) and is the General Secretary of Peckham Islamic Centre. Previously, he was the Commercial Advisor for the Ivory Coast Embassy. Colin has lived, studied and worked in Southwark for 45 years. He was the Chair of both East Dulwich and Acorn TRAs. As a diversity champion, he has started several community projects across Southwark, is a School Governor and a Coordinator at Albrighton Community Centre.

Having worked for Southwark Council for 27 years, Sharon works closely with organisations across Southwark on social housing and justice issues. Mariam works in the charity sector as an Education and Youth Coordinator for Teens and Toddlers. She works with young people across Southwark and has been a community activist since she was aged 14. Juliet has BA (Hon) and PG-CIM Marketing degrees from London. She is an independent Marketing Consultant and has also worked for Southwark’s social services for 18 years. A resident of Faraday for 27 years, Juliet is a Community Peace Ambassador and was awarded the Met Police and PM Excellent Service Award.

Amadu has studied at universities in Africa, Europe and the UK. He has a Masters degree in Economic and Social Planning at Kiev State Economic University in Ukraine. Amadu is fluent in Russian. A successful businessman, he runs and manages a pilgrimage business in Southwark. As a community leader, Amadu wants to represent Southwark in Westminster. Aba is an academic with over two decades of experience. He studied for a PhD at the University of Essex where he had the honour of meeting HRH The Queen. Aba holds multiple degrees and has lived, worked and travelled across three continents. Adedokun (Ade) was a Councillor for South Bermondsey from 2006-2010. He has been a community leader in Southwark for more than 30 years. Ade is a former Chair of JMB Leathermarket and has also been involved with Longfield TRA, Safer Neighborhood Team and South Bermondsey Partnership Board. He is the Chairman of the Yoruba Nigerian Association in London.

Godson has a BA degree in International Relations and Politics. He is a political and social commentator, writer and public speaker. Godson speaks four languages and is currently building an online radio streaming platform. He published his first book last year and is writing another two books to be published in 2015. Stephen was elected as a Councillor for South Camberwell in 2010 having been a Councillor in Westminster borough. He holds LLB and MA degrees from the University of London. In Southwark, Stephen was the Vice-Chair of the Planning Committee and a member of the Camberwell Community Council. He is active in his local community. Alongside these commitments, Stephen also works as the London Region Director of Retailers Against Crime London. Prem has been living in Southwark for about 10 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from India and later achieved a Masters in Engineering and an MBA in the US. He has his own successful global consulting business, Global Markets Consultants in the City of London. In addition to being a Magistrate for more than six years, Prem is a Trustee or Patron to a number of community organizations in Southwark and beyond. He is passionate about building One Southwark.

John Houston is a freelance writer, designer and artist. He has been a journalist for over 30 years and previously owned and managed one of the top fifty press and public relations firms in the UK. He has worked extensively with schools, education trusts, local authorities and others in education including the DfE. Aaron is a youth advisor and campaigner. He has a BA from the University of London in History and Politics. He has previously worked in Parliament for an MP and in the charity sector. Aaron was a Deputy Field Organiser for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign in Florida. He is a radio presenter, youth committee board member and charity trustee. Sameer represented the UK at the official Youth G20 Summit 2013 in St Petersburg and participated in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2013). He has a BA from Manchester University and MPhil from Cambridge University. He previously worked for The Global Poverty Project and is currently Project Manager at Open Mobile Media Ltd.

Adam was born and bred in Southwark. He has been the Co-Founder and Director of iMove Estate Agents Ltd since 2012. iMove Estates empowers homeowners and helps them avoid the large commission fees. Previously, Adam played football for Tottenham Hotspur FC and Crystal Palace FC at youth level before injury put an end to his fledgling career. Festus is the Founder and Director of ACF Sports Management. Himself a talented footballer, Festus has had trials at Watford and Leicester City. Edith is the visionary behind the Pan-African Business Expo whose objectives are to empower businesses to engage effectively in International Trade with Africa and the Caribbean. Emma is a trainee digital journalist at the Guardian. She is an activist and a Board Member for UpRising. Previously she worked for Your Square Mile and CARE International UK. In 2012 she was longlisted for The Guardian International Development Journalism Award. Lawrence is a community champion in Greenwich. He his own security services business. Lawrence wants to be a symbol and voice of our diverse communities.

Chief Mrs Yemisi Agunbiade Sanusi is the Executive Director of Yemstars Global Enterprises. She has a wealth of experience in successfully managing people in crises from diverse cultural backgrounds within healthcare and social welfare. Yemisi set up the International Day for Africa Youth UK (IDAY-UK) and is passionate about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. She was awarded the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award by Nigeria UK Based Achievers. Jaika Bsc, MBA and PhD degrees from the UK. She currently works for London School of Commerce. Originating from Cameroon, she has worked with freedom and human rights organisations in Cameroon to implement and supervise projects to help address these issues. Jaika believes in equality at the top. Anita’s passion lies with those with a lost identity, those without a voice crying but not heard. Anita started a foodbank for her church and partakes in community outreach both in Southwark and Croydon. She is currently working with a team to give back a voice to the minority and youths with the loudest cry and to restore their lost heritage while giving hope for the future. Anita holds a BSc in Economics from the UK and runs her own consulting company.

Sultana is a Southwark community champion who has committed over 1,000 hours as one of the borough’s top childminders. Sultana has positively impacted lives of hundreds of Southwark residents, especially young people with Bangladeshi roots. Victoria has a BA in English and Arabic from the University of Ghana and Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. She is currently working at the dissertation stage on her MA in Professional Development in Education at the University of Bolton. She is the Owner and Instructor of the East Dulwich Kumon Centre. As an education management professional, she is passionate about promoting learning to ensure all our children achieve academically and educationally. Robert has a BSc in Economics from the University of Warwick. He is a Corporate Finance Analyst at Ernst & Young and a resident in Southwark.

As a qualified football referee for amateur matches, Ben is keen to do this through refereeing.

Charity previously worked as a healthcare assistant. Agata has a Master’s degree from University of Lublin and Diploma in teaching. She is a finance manger and entrepreneur. Agata is the Director of Your Financial Education which provides financial education for families and helps young people get financially fit. She is currently writing a financial education program for primary school pupils. Faramolu is a youth leader in Southwark. He is a community champion and most recently organised a community basketball tournament in Peckham.

Martins is the President of the National Assocation of Nigerian Communities (NANC) in the UK. He has a Masters in Law degree and is a Human Rights Activist. He is the Founder of Chaingestoday, a Peckham based organisation that empowers individuals and communities through mentoring, skills and experience acquisition and transfer. Json has run his own business in Peckham since 1999 and is a true believer in Peckham and all that is great about Peckham. Apeike has a BEng First Class Honours degree from Kings College London and completed the LPC at BPP. She is an international debate champion, a mentor at the ESU and tutors young people. Deuan helped Gerry German, the charity’s founder to set up CEN in 1999 and worked part-time ever since supporting the charity by managing the office, fundraising, marketing and organising and delivering Restorative Justice and Education Advocacy training.  Since Gerry’s death in May 2012, Deuan has been in post as Strategic Director since October 2012. Paulette is a community activist leading the Clitterhouse Farm Project campaign to save a restore the historic Clitterhouse farm buildings. Equality is incredibly close to her heart and her number one aim in life. Thomas is a community champion who has lived in Southwark for about one and a half years. He has worked at St Marks Community Centre and for British Rail.

Timothy is a Financial Analyst at MetLife Europe PLC, an insurance company. Previously, Timothy worked as a Cost Analyst/Engineer for Suffolk Petroleum Services. Olu is the Director of African Families Support Network. He is a former independent MP candidate for Leeds Central and was given an award by the Home Office for his community initiatives. He is a community champion and was nominated to meet with the Prime Minister in 2005 because of his community work. Lady Anita Duckworth-Bradshaw is the founder of La Proverbs Ltd, a coaching, mentoring and personal development company. She is an accredited life coach and author with a passion for positive change. Anita is dedicated to supporting others so they can become the very best.

Michael has MSc degrees in International Finance and Regional Economics and Development from Germany. He is an Assistant Director of Finance with over 20 years experience in finance and accounting. As a community champion, he is a role model to our young people Catherine has a Masters degree in Engineering and three years project engineer experience combined with three years business management experience. She wants all top positions in business and politics to be 100% open to all women and ethnic minorities, rather than mainly accessible to members of a club or tribe. Temi is completing her BA degree having also studied in Sweden. She was chosen as one of 30 young people to be part of the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship. She has worked for KPMG and the British Council and works to establish dialogue and cohesion between communities and faith groups.

He currently is an expert advisor to Heriot Watt University with a particular expertise in working with expert citizens and service users. Olubiyi has a BSc and an MBA from the University of London. He was a Commander in the Nigerian Navy and works at the Ministry of Justice. As a community champion, he works with less privileged people in his community to help deliver justice.

He  is the President and Founder of HEN Foundation (Hawau Eniola Foundation). It’s objectives focus on health, education and needy for empowerment. HEN works closely with partners across the world to support poor mothers in Africa. Jamiu is also an International Consultant to the UN on conflict management and resolution.

Tunde is a mechanical engineer and specialist in water treatment and combustion technologies used for cars and aeroplanes. He has degrees from the University of Westminster and Cranfield University, as well as a PhD from Brunel University.  Richard is a community champion from North Peckham who is a Behaviour Consultant. His passion is to mentor young people and help them realise their full and true potential.

 A successful entrepreneur, Abdul is the owner of Safa Restaurant in Camberwell. He supports equality at the top and wants our politicians to be more representative of the community. Gloria is an experienced social and family support worker with a BSc in Social Work from University of Bedfordshire. She has worked with children, offenders and their families, asylum seekers and young people living in care. Gwenton is currently Director of Crying Sun’s Trust which aims to eliminate gangs and gun and knife crime by working with young people and providing youth work training. He also works closely with Scotland Yard, the Home Office and local authorities.  Since 2007, Gwenton has set up three gang exit programmes across the UK to save lives. To date, he has rehoused over 70 gang members and saved the taxpayer millions of pounds
