Alan Johnson helps me raise £5,600

Alan Johnson MP

On 18th January, about 100 guests tucked into a delicious Indian meal at the Bengal Clipper in Shad Thames. With the help of Alan Johnson, I raised £5,600 for Val Shawcross’s deputy mayoral campaign.  Funds that are vital to pay for a professional organiser so Val’s campaign can run at full steam.

I had a great time hosting and conducting the proceedings. I introduced Alan Johnson as the Daly Thomson of the Labour party given the fact that he has championed so many roles and responsibilities for the party!  Alan gave an entertaining speech and made everyone laugh.  Following him, Chuka Umunaa spoke passionately and thanked the army of people door knocking and leafleting.  I took them on a tour of room meeting all our supporters, making sure no one was left out or passed by.

There were some cracking items on auction, including signed whisky bottles by Ed Miliband, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Also sold off by our brilliant auctioneer, Shamir Sharma, was a Macbeth poster signed by Hollywood star and local Labour supporter, Patrick Stewart.

Many thanks to all who attended and my superb event team, including James Gill and James King.
